We're just days away from welcoming back the first puffins to Grímsey! Grímsey is Iceland’s northernmost island, located right on the Arctic Circle. You can reach it by a 25-minute flight from Akureyri or a 3-hour ferry ride from Dalvík.
These charming seabirds usually arrive around April 10th and stay until August 10th.

Grímsey is truly one of the best places in Iceland to see and photograph puffins up close, along with thousands of other seabirds that return here to nest every summer.

Did you know?
• Puffins mate for life and return to the same nesting burrow each year.
• Their colorful beaks only appear during the breeding season — the rest of the year, they’re surprisingly modest-looking.
• Puffins are amazing swimmers and can dive down to 60 meters in search of fish!
