Akureyri Municipality owns and manages the old oak boat "Huni II", that can be rented out for short excursions and trips in the fjörð. It is popular among locals to rent it for special events for groups, firms, etc. The boat has capacity for up to 100 passengers. Departure from the "Torfunefsbryggja" dock (below city centre).
Braggaparkið is a indoor skate park. The facility is for skateboards, scooters, BMX & line skating. It is open every day from 12.00-19.00.

The Akureyri golf course (Jadar) has the appearance of a moorland course. The par-71 layout meanders around and over broad ridges, broken up by clusters of trees and rock outcroppings. Hrísey is a peaceful island in the middle of Eyjafjörður. The island is a well known paradise for bird watchers and the most abundant of all birds on the island is the ptarmigan. It only takes about 15 minutes to sail with the ferry from Árskógssandur over to Hrísey island.

South of Akureyri is Iceland's most visited forest Kjarnaskogur. The recreational area is approx 600ha with more than 1 million trees of many species planted within the last 50 years.
Sailing courses for children begin when school ends in spring and usually take place in mid-August. Each course is one week, weekdays 3 hours at a time. From 9-12 or 13-16.
The Akureyri Ice Rink is open for general public on weekends. There is an skate rental as well as sharpening service in the Ice Rink. The canteen sells snacks and is open during public skating.
In Akureyri and surroundings there are great conditions for skiing. Season from end November till June depending on the sort of skiing preferred and areas chosen.
Akureyri is surrounded by steep mountains. A snow cat ride up on top during cold winter with beautiful views over and accross the fjord is an amazing experience.
The lake holds small arctic char and big brown trout and the odds are in your favor since it is not unusual to catch up to 15-20 char a day with the occasional huge brown trout.
