The Puffins Are Back – A Little Early This Year!
Spring has arrived in Iceland, and so have our favorite feathered friends! The first puffins of the season were spotted in Grímsey this weekend by local resident Ragnhildur Hjaltadóttir, marking an early start to puffin season.

These charming Atlantic puffins spend most of their lives out at sea, but each spring they return to Iceland’s coastal cliffs to breed. Upon arrival, they get right to work – locating their old burrows, cleaning them out, and getting ready for the summer ahead.

With their colorful beaks, comical waddle, and curious expressions, puffins have captured the hearts of locals and travelers alike. Puffin watching has become one of the top summer experiences in Iceland – and it’s easy to see why!
