Medieval Days took place this past weekend in Gásir, 11 km north of Akureyri. This fun annual event provides insight into the old market and handicrafts that historically took place at this site.

Each summer in July on the old medieval trading site Gásir, a medieval trading area is re-created. The interactive medieval market event takes place over two days with daily demonstrations in medieval crafts and games. http://www.gasir.is/

The villagers are dressed in medieval costume and can be seen demonstrating medieval crafts; spinning wool, wood carving, tanning, blacksmithing and much more. Shows of medieval sword fighting are held each day and members of the public can join in with medieval ball games and archery.
One can buy hand crafted items on site (no credit cards as they did not exist in the medieval times ;-)
Entrance fee can though be payed with credit cards.

Bring a picnic and enjoy it at this beautiful outdoor venue.

A nice 2 minutes presentation about Gásir
