July has never been as warm in Akureyri as this year. Temperatures have been measured in Akureyri since 1881, the average for July this year was 14.3°C and the last record was in 1933 when it reached 13.3°C.
Even though 14,3 °C dose not sound high it covers measurements around the clock for 31 days.
The average temperature of one month in Iceland has never before crossed the 14°C limit.
Sunlight hours were also making new records in Akureyri this summer - with 244 hours - that are 91 hours more than the average of the years 1991 to 2020. In comparison the sunlight hours in the capital Reykjavík in July were only 121 this same month. The North and East of Iceland were experiencing a fabulous weather during July this year.
