EasyJet's inaugural flight from Manchester to Akureyri was completed today on a windy but clear morning in the North.
EasyJet now offers flights from both London Gatwick and Manchester airports twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Announced this spring, the Manchester flights are in addition to the London flights that were first launched last winter. The flights have been well received by people from the UK and Iceland, with many connections available through the two airports. Travel agencies now offer easier trips to Norðurland in winter, with more time to explore and experience the area.
When the flights were announced, easyJet UK country manager Ali Gayward was excited about the look of the new destination.
As the only airline to offer a direct link between the UK and the Nordics, we are delighted to be launching another route this winter to Akureyri from Manchester Airport, in addition to our existing route from London Gatwick, which will provide travelers in both the UK and the Nordics with more choice and connectivity. We are dedicated to supporting the development of tourism in Iceland and look forward to welcoming more customers on board this winter. ," says Ali Gayward. "
