Dimmuborgir

Dimmuborgir - which is an area in the lake Mývatn district, that is only in about 1 hours drive from Akureyri. The district is know for its rich birdlife, geology and volcanism. It is one of the most amazing natural attractions in the country. The Dimmuborgir area consists of a massive, collapsed lava tube formed by a lava lake flowing in from a large eruption on a crater row some 2300 years ago.
