Bonfire and fireworks on New Year’s Eve

The annual bonfire on New Year’s Eve (31st December) in Akureyri will take place by Réttarhvammur, just above the town by the road to Mt. Hlíðarfjall. 

The bonfire starts at 20.30 and the fireworks about 21.10

People are encouraged to come and enjoy the event, bring good clothing and protection glasses but not private fireworks as they are not allowed. Al those who can walk to the site are advised to do so even though parking is available close to the site in order to reduce traffic.
