It is getting increasingly popular to spend the Christmas holidays in Iceland - as well as the New Year's Eve. The month of December is the darkest time of the year in Iceland, but thanks to the snow and the Christmas lights and even the Northern lights that dance a cross the sky, this month turns out to be one of the more fascinating time of the year.
We have received a lot of snow in the north of Iceland this holiday season and as usual the ski area was opened for the season just before Christmas and will be open during the holidays.
You can find a list of Christmas and New Years opening hours for 2019 here for restaurants, museums, swimming pools, grocery shops and other attractions. Note that only a few restaurants are open during the holiday season and they will get fully booked - so make sure to book a table for New Years Eve as soon as possible.
