On Tuesday, March 4, from 5:00–5:40 PM, Þórgunnur Þórsdóttir, a specialist at Safnasafnið, will give a Tuesday Lecture at the Akureyri Art Museum under the title "With Art in the Backpack." She will discuss how visual art, both subtly and explicitly, has intertwined with her journey from amateur photography to cultural mediation, museum work, and exhibition design.
Þórgunnur holds a diploma in drawing from the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts and a bachelor's degree in contemporary art from the University of Cumbria, England. She works at Safnasafnið, the primary museum of Icelandic folk art, and has previously served as an education officer at the Akureyri Museum and as an exhibition curator at Svavar’s Museum, the art museum of Svavar Guðnason, in Hornafjörður. Þórgunnur has curated and organized exhibitions and events in Iceland and has undertaken diverse museum education and multimedia projects.
The lecture series is a collaborative project between the Akureyri Art Museum, Akureyri Vocational College, the Visual Arts Association, and the Gil Society. Other speakers this season include visual artists Angelika Haak and Brynja Baldursdóttir, as well as representatives from the Visual Arts Association.
