The exhibition opened on February 22, 2025 and is set up as part of museum education, with the aim of making visible and stimulating the creative work of children aged five to sixteen. The participants each time are schoolchildren and working artists.
This year, sculptor Sólveig Baldursdóttir was invited to participate in the project. Her solo exhibition, A Moment – Looking Back, opened at the National Gallery of Iceland in November 2024, but now the exhibition has been transformed and a new one has been created: The Creation of Childhood 2025. The exhibition shows Sólveig's sculptures in a new context and in an interesting dialogue with the children's work.
The schools participating this time are the Hólmasól kindergarten and the Giljaskóli, Hlíðarskóli, Lundarskóli, Oddeyrarskóli and Síðuskóli primary schools. This winter, the schoolchildren and their teacher came to the Art Museum and worked on their works for the exhibition under the guidance of the artist. There, they had the opportunity to get to know Sólveiga and use her sculptures as inspiration for their own creations.
*Admission to the museum - free for those 18 years and under.
