Fishermen's Day is an event dedicated to Iceland’s seamen, called Sjómannadagur in Icelandic. This is an annual event that commemorates Iceland’s seafaring culture and sailors. The celebration traditionally take place on the first Sunday in June.

The sea and its sailors are a vital part of Icelandic culture and every year most of the ships in Iceland remain in the harbour over the weekend while the sailors have the day off to take part in the festivities.

The day used to be celebrated in almost each town and village, but is now only celebrated in some. In the area of Eyjafjörður the day is usually celebrated in Ólafsfjörður, Akureyri, Hrísey and Grímsey.

10. June
Industry Museum - Iðnaðarsafnið
At 13.00 - 16.30 Open house and focus on Fishermansday:
Exhibition with shipmodels and other items connected to fisheries.
Stories from the sea (in icelandic):
- The Crew from Húna II tell about the ship and invite to a sailing on the boat at 17.00
- History of boat building in Akureyri by Árna Birni Árnasyni during the sail tour.

At 13.00 Boat tour with Húni II from the pier Torfunefi at 13.00 - boat gathering by Bótin and all the boats sail towards the town center at 13.30.

At 10.30 Fishermen mass in the community hall Múli.
