Jazz duo Silva Þórðar and Steingrímur Teague finally at Græni Hatturinn
Ever since Silva Þórðardóttir (vocals) and Steingrímur Teague (vocals, keyboards) first met over an apple cake and black coffee, they have dedicated themselves to exploring the deeply human, soulful—and slightly dark—side of the jazz repertoire. Their album More Than You Know was released in 2022 with only a modest number of signatures, yet its songs have now been streamed six million times. Last Christmas, they released Christmas with Silva and Steini, and a new record is expected later this year.
Their performance is marked by a strong sense of intimacy and a conversational interplay between voices, while Steingrímur’s piano and Wurlitzer playing is executed with a soft, mellow touch—though he does occasionally inject a bit of flair.
Silva Þórðardóttir studied jazz vocals at the FÍH Music School and released the standards album Skylark in 2019. Since then, she has performed with many of the country’s leading jazz musicians, earned three nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards in jazz singing, and regularly appears with the vocal ensemble Jazzkonur.
Steingrímur Teague is at the forefront of Icelandic bands and is probably best known for singing and playing keyboards in Moses Hightower. He has also received considerable accolades for various musical projects, including two nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards in jazz singing.
