Exhibition openings at Akureyri Art Museum
Creation of Childhood 2025
This is the twelfth exhibition with the title Creation of Childhood set up in Akureyri Art Museum. The aim is to promote museum education and to present and stimulate creative work by children from the age of five to sixteen. Participants each time are children and artists as well as Akureyri Museum / Toy Museum.
This year the sculptor Sólveig Baldursdóttir was invited to participate in the project. Her solo exhibition Moments – Back in Time, opened in the museum in November 2024 and in February 2025 it will transform into a new one: Creation of Childhood 2025. There her sculptures are exhibited in a new context, communicating with the work of the children.
Participating playschool this time is Hólmasól and the elementary schools Giljaskóli, Lundarskóli, Oddeyrarskóli and Síðuskóli. This winter the children visited the museum and created their work for the exhibition under the guidance of Baldursdóttir. They got to know the artist and used her sculptures as an inspiration for their own artworks.

Diverse I
How does one get an idea for an artwork? Artists use varied methods to communicate and interpret their ideas. In visual arts a medium means the way or method through which the artist has chosen to create his work. There are various methods to communicate and the differences between them can be unclear. Some artists use traditional mediums while others experiment with diverse materials and techniques to achieve desired effects.
The aim of this exhibition is to educate museum guests about various art-mediums by showing selected works from the collection of Akureyri Art Museum. The works are diverse, by different artists and created with various methods.
The guests of the museum also get an opportunity to leave their mark on the exhibition, seek inspiration in the works and create their own art in a motivating environment.
