Elísabet Jökulsdóttir's Magnificent Material Comes to Life on Stage
The remarkable work of Elísabet Jökulsdóttir takes on new life in a production by the same creative team behind the groundbreaking performance Vertu úlfur. That show received unanimous acclaim, swept multiple awards, and captivated audiences so much that it ran for three years at the National Theater's main stage. In this new production, Unnur Ösp and Björn Thors swap roles; now, it’s Unnur who performs, and Björn is the one directing the play.
The show won numerous awards at the Gríman 2024, including Best Production of the Year, Best Play of the Year, Actress of the Year in a Leading Role (Unnur Ösp Stefánsdóttir), and Music of the Year (Ólöf Arnalds and Skúli Sverrisson).
The play revolves around a grown woman who, after the death of her mother, faces a pivotal reckoning. She is finally ready to confront the difficult memories of her childhood—her father’s death, mental illness, love, and her tumultuous life journey. Why did these two women never truly connect, despite having shared their entire lives, attempting to face each other through their sorrows and victories?
