A new concert series, Hvítar súlur, will be launched on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 16:00 in Hamrar.
The first concert in the series will feature the string quartet Spúttnik, a group that has performed at various events, including the Summer Concerts in Akureyrarkirkja, Ljósanótt Art Festival in Hljómahöll, Hannesarholt, Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum, Gljúfrasteinn, and the Berjadagar Festival in Ólafsfjörður. The quartet has collaborated closely with violin maker Jón Marinó Jónsson and has performed on his instruments on numerous occasions. The project also received support for concerts at the Litla-Hraun and Hólmsheiði prisons.
The program for Palm Sunday includes two quartets:
🎻 String Quartet Op.76 No.3 by Joseph Haydn, one of his most influential and well-known works, featuring a second movement originally composed in honor of the Austrian Emperor, later becoming the German national anthem.
🎻 String Quartet No.3 by Pēteris Vasks, inspired by an old Latvian Christmas song, reflecting the fragile hope for peace and the inner struggle between despair and optimism in a world on the brink.
