The accordion has touched the hearts of Icelanders since its arrival in the country, and from the mid-19th century well into the 20th century, it was one of the country's primary dance instruments. The accordion has a strong connection to the national spirit, and many people have fond memories of hearing family members and friends play the instrument.

At this event, the audience will have the opportunity to experience the unique sound of the accordion and how it can be used to perform various types of music. The concert will feature a diverse range of music, from traditional dance tunes to contemporary pieces, even including some powerfully sung passages accompanied by the accordion.

In connection with International Accordion Day, which is celebrated every year on May 6, we honor the accordion and let its distinctive tones echo throughout the Menningarhúsið Hof. Starting at 14:30, guests can hear the sound of the accordion as they walk through the building, with various accordion players warming up the audience for the concert. At the concert in Hömrum at 16:00, world-class accordionists will perform different styles from various periods of music history.
