About the Artists and Exhibitions:
🔹 Hulda Vilhjálmsdóttir (b. 1971) graduated from the painting department of the Iceland University of the Arts in 2000 and has since held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions both in Iceland and abroad. Painting has always been Hulda’s artistic foundation. She works both figuratively and abstractly, primarily using acrylic and oil, but has also exhibited ceramic works, collages, video pieces, and performances. The exhibition Huldukona showcases different threads in her artistic practice, emphasizing the brilliance of the artwork—art for art’s sake.
🔹 Kristján Guðmundsson (b. 1941) is a self-taught artist who held his first exhibition at Mokkakaffi in Reykjavík in 1968. He was one of the founders of Gallerí SÚM in 1969 and served as its director during the first year. Kristján later moved to Amsterdam for nine years before relocating to Hjalteyri, Iceland. He is one of Iceland’s most renowned conceptual artists, often challenging conventional definitions of art through his materials and artistic approach. This exhibition presents eight works that are being shown in Iceland for the first time.
🔹 Þórður Hans Baldursson (b. 1992) and Þórunn Elísabet Sveinsdóttir (b. 1952) explore gender perceptions in the exhibition Dömur mínar og herrar. Þórður Hans' piece Karlakórinn í veggnum brings hanging black ties to life through sound and movement, while Þórunn’s work Að vippa um sig vippu personifies simple garments using fluttering scarves scented with perfume. The works invite viewers to reflect on preconceived notions about gender and identity, highlighting their fluid and ever-evolving nature.
