We will drive to Miklagarður in Eyjafjörður, where the cars will be parked. From there, we will hike along the south side of Skjóldalsá through Skjóldal and then follow Kambsá up to Kambskarð, reaching 1,000 meters in elevation. We will continue down from the pass into Þverárdal and then head north along the valley, walking beside Þverá.

The trail is unmarked and overgrown, with several streams to cross, some of which may need to be forded. It is recommended to bring water crossing shoes and hiking poles.

According to Jónas Kristjánsson, this route was often traveled during the Sturlunga Age and was once known as Skjálgdalsheiði. You can read more about this here: Jonas Kristjansson’s page.
