GLUGGINN in Hafnarstræti 88, the studio of artist Brynja Harðardóttir Tveiten, is currently showing crocheted and knitted wigs and hats. The exhibition is set up on the occasion of Pink October, the Icelandic Cancer Society's annual vigilance and fundraising campaign against women's cancers.
Brynja completed cancer treatment at the end of 2021 after being diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. She lost her hair, and to comfort her and to the couple's joy and peace of mind, her husband decided to knit and crochet a headpiece for her. Some nicer than others. At the end of the treatment, Brynja's headgear served as a reminder that the cancer might return and that she might need it again. So she put them in an old pillow case and put it in the furthest part of storage. In the same way, Pink October has evoked mixed feelings with her, and therefore Brynja felt it was ideal and timely to retrieve the wigs from storage, practice not letting fear take hold and lift up these two acts of love. Take the bite out of uncomfortable mental relationships, encourage people to show solidarity, have a good time and practice acts of love towards yourself and others.
The exhibition lasts until October and is accessible 24 hours a day, as it is enjoyed from the outside.
