The hike starts at the farm Dagverðartunga in Hörgársveit, south of Fornhagagil. The route follows along Úlfá and Tungudalsá rivers, heading into Ytri-Tungudal towards Dyngjuhnjúkur. From there, the hike crosses Tungudalsá river and continues up to Dýjafjallshnjúkur. The same route is taken back.

If special equipment such as crampons is needed, the guides will notify participants in advance.
