In celebration of Akureyri’s Children’s Culture Festival, THE WINDOW at Hafnarstræti 88 is filled with a sense of adventure. A delightful display of toys—some from the past—and various childhood treasures are beautifully arranged for all to enjoy. This window exhibition is designed for all ages and makes for a perfect stop during a stroll or a field trip, as it can be admired from the outside.

Both young and old are invited on a nostalgic journey, discovering items that spark joy and curiosity while creating moments for storytelling, conversations, and play—especially across generations.

The exhibition is the creative work of sisters Brynja Harðardóttir Tveiten, a visual artist, and Áslaug Harðardóttir Tveiten, owner of the vintage boutique Fröken Blómfríður. They encourage everyone passing by to bring their imagination and have a bit of fun. Here are a few playful ideas:

🔹 Look for the hidden nest
🔹 Read the book titles and check out the vinyl records
🔹 Invent stories—what are the toys up to? Where are they? Who took a bite of the pastry? Who scribbled on the album cover of Hanna Valdís, and why?
🔹 Pick an object in your mind and let others guess what it is by asking one question at a time
🔹 Choose something especially odd, amusing, or unexciting and explain why
🔹 Walk past the window in a silly, graceful, or just a completely different way than usual
🔹 Play hopscotch
