The New Year's Eve Bonfire of Akureyri will be held at the same location as last year, an empty area a bit to the south of the golf course at Jaðar. A beautiful bonfire will be lit there at 8:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
The attached aerial photo shows the bonfire site, where cars can be parked, and hiking trails to the bonfire.
A fireworks display will be held near the Norðurorka headquarters and will begin at around 9:00 p.m. The Súlur Rescue Team is in charge of the display, which is sponsored by Norðurorka.
Let's be careful with fireworks and remember to pick up and properly classify fireworks waste. Fireworks waste must never be placed in mixed household waste. Special containers for this will be placed at the Bónus stores in Naustahverfi and Langholt as well as at the local station north of the City Hall.

The walking path from the parking lots west of Kjarnagata is about 800 meters to the bonefire and from the parking lot by the golf course at Jaður is about 700 meters.
