Akureyri Public Park and Botanic Garden.
The Public Park was first opened in 1912 and the botanic section added in 1957. The park has been enlarged three times since 1912 and is now about 3.6 ha and lies at 40-50 m altitude at Eyrarlandsvegur road near midtown.
The aim of the botanical garden is to cultivate trees, shrubs, and perennials suited to the demanding climate of Northern Iceland, characterized by pronounced seasonality in temperature and day length. Situated in the shelter of Eyjafjord, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, the garden benefits from a favorable microclimate for plant growth. In addition to the 430 native species, an impressive 6600 alien taxa thrive in the garden. As an IPEN member, the garden actively participates in seed exchange, public information dissemination, education, and recreation.
The Public Park and Botanic Garden is open all year. From June 1st to September 30th, it is open on weekdays from 08:00 to 22:00, and on weekends from 09:00 to 22:00. From October 1st to May 30th, while the plants are hibernating, visitors are still welcome to enjoy a stroll, as the gates remain open, but the garden facilities are closed.
In the park, there is a restaurant, LYST, which operates all year. For openinghours look here.
