The staff at VisitAkureyri is responsible for marketing and promoting the Municipality of Akureyri which consists of Akureyri town, as well as the islands Grímsey and Hrisey in the North of Iceland. Grímsey island being the northernmost part of Iceland, on the Arctic Circle.
The Municipality has about 19.000 inhabitants. It is the cultural and commercial hub for North Iceland and provides good connection domestically and internationally with main road nr 1 through town, excellent harbours and an international and domestic airport with frequent flights to Reykjavík and international connections to Denemark, Germany, Holland and more.
At VisitAkureyri we assist and support the field of tourism, with promotion, publications, information, participating in travel trades, organize visits and run different websites and social media pages with information about the town and the islands. VisitAkureyri also supports and organizes cultural events in town. It is responsible for several annual events such as the Summer Art Festival and Akureyri Town Festival, and assists in others e.g., with know how and promotion.
