Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday was celebrated today - it is the main carnival day for Icelandic children. This day has a long tradition in Akureyri where children get dressed up in costumes and head downtown, visiting stores and companies, singing in exchange for candy.
Iceland is at the moment the only green country in Europe (in terms of Covid-19), with no registered new infection domestically since the beginning of February, therefore children could celebrate the day almost as usual.
